Island cruising, enduring friendships, and a celebration of the Maritimo lifestyle…

The Whitsundays have long been one of Australia’s most desirable luxury motor yacht cruising destinations. They offer an extraordinary combination of tropical islands, protected anchorages, world-class marina facilities, and truly spectacular coastal scenery.
For Maritimo owners, the region provides the freedom to explore at their own pace, whether that means an extended passage through the islands, a leisurely afternoon at anchor, or simply enjoying the company of friends in one of Queensland’s most beautiful waterfront settings.

t was against this backdrop that Maritimo returned to Hamilton Island for its latest owners’ muster, bringing together 17 vessels along with their owners and friends for a weekend of cruising, hospitality and shared experiences. In attendance was a fleet spanning several generations of Maritimo design, from established favourites through, to the recently launched S50. The gathering was as much a celebration of the brand’s enduring owner community, as it was an opportunity to enjoy some of the finest cruising waters on Australia’s East Coast.
From Hamilton Island to Cape Gloucester
The weekend began on Thursday evening with welcome drinks at The Palms on Hamilton Island, which provided for an informal gathering that allowed owners to reconnect before the cruising component of the event. Many of the participants were returning from the previous year’s muster, so there was a familiar atmosphere from the outset, although the program also welcomed owners experiencing a Maritimo gathering for the first time.

Friday’s planned departure for Cape Gloucester brought a reminder that even in the tropical Whitsundays, conditions do not always follow the itinerary. A fresh breeze had developed across the region, creating a following sea for the northbound passage. While the conditions remained well within the capabilities of a Bluewater classic that all Maritimos are, several owners elected to remain in their Hamilton Island berths, and rejoin the festivities later in the weekend.

10 Maritimos made the passage north, travelling at individual cruising speeds and choosing their preferred course along the mainland coastline. The fleet’s destination was Cape Gloucester, a popular stop on the western side of the Whitsunday cruising region, where the combination of sheltered waters, moorings, and welcoming shoreside hospitality makes it particularly attractive for larger motor yachts travelling in company.
As Maritimo’s Retail Marketing Consultant, Grant Binskin explained, “We visited Cape Gloucester Resort during the Muster last year and really enjoyed the location and hospitality there. There is also a nice safe anchorage right out the front with some moorings. It was terrific to return this year and enjoy another beautiful afternoon and evening on the beach.”

Once around the headland and into the more protected waters near Cape Gloucester, the fleet settled onto moorings and prepared for an afternoon ashore. By early afternoon, the journey had given way to the more relaxed side of the Maritimo lifestyle, with owners gathering on the beachfront for refreshments and conversation as the sun began its descent.

The afternoon’s hospitality featured Pimm’s, prawns and platters, accompanied by Hawaiian shirts, summer dresses, and the casual atmosphere of a tropical beachside gathering. It was deliberately uncomplicated, allowing owners to move easily between their vessels and the shoreside festivities whilst catching up with friends and meeting other members of the Maritimo community.
With the evening drawing to a close, owners returned to their yachts for a night at anchor before the following day’s passage back toward Hamilton Island.

A fleet spanning generations
Saturday morning saw the fleet begin its return to Hamilton Island, with the prevailing conditions once again influencing individual cruising plans. Rather than travelling as a tightly organised convoy, owners were free to choose their own routes, make stops along the way, or return directly to the marina. Some took the opportunity to explore neighbouring islands, while others made their way back to Hamilton Island in preparation for the evening’s celebrations.

This year’s gathering also provided an opportunity to showcase the new Maritimo S50, which had made its first substantial coastal passage from the Gold Coast to Hamilton Island in the weeks leading up to the event. The journey demonstrated the vessel’s credentials as a genuine long-range cruising motor yacht, whilst allowing owners to see and experience the latest generation of Maritimo design in the environment for which it was created.

The S50 attracted considerable attention throughout the weekend, with owners taking the opportunity to step aboard and take in its contemporary interior, innovative use of space and distinctive styling. Its light oak finishes and expansive glazing create an open, welcoming atmosphere, whilst the thoughtful arrangement of its living areas reflects Maritimo’s continuing emphasis on practical cruising and onboard comfort.

“One of the first things our guests comment on when they step aboard the new S50 is how welcoming it feels. The seamless, single level flow from the cockpit into the kitchen and living area, combined with the abundance of natural light through the large windows, creates an open and inviting space,” said Binskin.

Alongside the S50 were Maritimos representing a broad cross-section of the company’s production history, including M59, M600 and M55 models. The diversity of vessels provided a reminder of the enduring appeal of Maritimo’s design philosophy, with owners of different generations of motor yachts sharing their experiences and discussing the features that matter most to them.

For Maritimo, these gatherings also offer something that conventional boat shows cannot easily replicate. Owners can experience new models in a relaxed setting, compare them with their existing vessels, and then speak directly with the people behind the brand. Conversations are driven as much by practical cruising experience and personal relationships, as they are by specifications, allowing the company to maintain close contact with its established customer base while introducing the latest developments in its range.
